Instructions for completing EVAF (Form DS-156)
As of November 1, 2006, everyone who applies for a non-immigrant visa to the United States (including fiancé visas) must use the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF). All U.S. visa-issuing offices in Australia will no longer accept handwritten forms or any other form that hasn’t been filled out using the U.S. Department of State’s online system.
The introduction of the EVAF in September 2003 allowed U.S. consular sections around the world to improve efficiency and reduce wait times. In requiring all visa applicants to use the EVAF, the U.S. Department of State is taking the next logical step in moving toward a paperless online visa application system.
The EVAF can be found at http://evisaforms.state.gov/ and is available in English, Spanish, Polish, Korean, Japanese, French, German, and Portuguese. At present, this online form must still be printed out and brought to the visa interview. For more general information about applying for a U.S. visa in Australia, please visit our visa page.
