The American Citizen Services (ACS) section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Australia. American Citizen Services consists of the Passport & Citizenship and Special Consular Services sections. For information on American Citizen Services please make your selection from the options on the menu at the left side of this page.

To be allowed entry into the consular section for routine (non-emergency) services, you must make an appointment online at the Consulate that serves your area. If you can conduct your business by mail or online, please do so. Note: If the particular service you need does not require a personal appearance at the Consulate, you will be instructed to submit your application by mail.

Important Information for Tasmanian Residents

We are currently preparing for our consular visit to Hobart. At this stage our visit is scheduled for March 16, 2010. If you would like to submit an application for a U.S. passport and/or Consular Report of Birth Abroad during the consular visit, please send an email to MelbourneACS@state.gov Your email should include the names and date of birth of each applicant, as well as your address, telephone number, and a brief description of service(s) you are requesting.

Please note that we will only be accepting applications for U.S. passports and/or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, for applicants who are legally required to have an interview with a consular officer. Applications which can be submitted by mail will not be accepted. No visa services will be available.

Register Your Travel Abroad

U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/. Those who register will receive updated information on travel and security. Registration also makes it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to make contact in an emergency.
